Wet Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Enhances flavor.

Glaze Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar Sweetens the glaze.
  • 2 tablespoons milk Thins out the glaze.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds flavor to the glaze.

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  • Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and fully combined.
  • Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently fold until just combined.
  • Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick.
  • Using a sharp knife or a pastry cutter, cut the dough into 8 equal wedges. Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • While the scones are baking, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Once the scones are done baking, allow them to cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Drizzle the prepared glaze over the cooled scones and allow to set before serving.

Notes

These scones can be customized with chocolate chips, nuts, or dried cranberries for added flavor.
