  • 1 teaspoon Salt Enhances flavor and controls yeast activity.
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese Shredded, adds robust flavor.
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese Grated, adds nutty flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Infuses the dough with savory aroma.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning Adds aromatic touch.
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil For brushing, adds richness.
  • 1 cup Flour for dusting For rolling out the dough.

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of active sourdough starter, 1 cup of warm water, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Mix until well combined.
  • Gradually add 3 cups of all-purpose flour to the mixture, stirring with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  • While the dough is rising, combine 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning in a separate bowl. Set aside.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently. Roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick and sprinkle the cheese mixture evenly over the dough.
  • Using a pizza cutter, cut the dough into strips about 1 inch wide. Gently twist each strip to create a spiral shape and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Cover the shaped breadsticks with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Brush the tops of the breadsticks with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Once baked, let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
