Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup Sourdough Starter Active and bubbly
  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour Plus extra for dusting
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Milk Warmed
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Melted
  • 1 large Egg Acts as a binding agent

Filling Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Cinnamon Key spice for filling
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar Provides deeper sweetness

Icing Ingredients

  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar For icing
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Optional for flavor enhancement

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the active sourdough starter, warm milk, and melted butter. Stir until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, followed by the egg. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 4-6 hours or until it has doubled in size.
  • While the dough is rising, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Set aside.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Turn it out onto a floured surface and roll it into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Brush the rolled-out dough with melted butter and evenly sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the surface. Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.
  • Using a sharp knife, slice the log into 12 equal pieces. Place the rolls cut side up in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Cover the rolls with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise for an additional 30-60 minutes, or until puffy.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  • While the rolls are baking, prepare the icing by whisking together powdered sugar, a splash of milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Once the rolls are out of the oven, allow them to cool slightly before drizzling the icing on top. Serve warm and enjoy!
