Instructions
 

  • 1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  • 2. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Brown for 7-10 minutes until no longer pink. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  • 3. Stir in the beef broth, tomato sauce, and tomato paste. Mix well.
  • 4. Add Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, cumin, cinnamon, cocoa powder, allspice, salt, and pepper. Stir thoroughly.
  • 5. Bring to a simmer, reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • 6. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. For a thicker chili, simmer uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes.
  • 7. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving. Can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to three days.

Notes

Consider variations such as vegetarian options or different meats. Serve over spaghetti, hot dogs, or in a bowl with toppings.
