For the Savoury Quiche Filling:
- 1 lb broccoli florets (fresh or frozen, thawed and drained)
- 1 cup milk (whole or reduced-fat)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- Pinch of nutmeg (optional, but recommended)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9-inch pie dish.
- Steam or lightly boil broccoli florets for about 5 minutes until tender-crisp. Drain well.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté diced onion for 3-4 minutes until softened, then add garlic and cook for another minute. Remove from heat.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs and milk. Stir in cheddar cheese, Parmesan, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg (if using).
- Arrange the steamed broccoli evenly in the prepared pie dish.
- Pour the egg mixture over the broccoli and distribute the sautéed onion and garlic on top.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the quiche is set and golden brown on top. A knife inserted should come out mostly clean.
- Let cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
Customize with different cheeses, vegetables, or meats. Reheat leftovers in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for the best texture.
